Thai Police Detain COVID-Infected Israeli Tourist Who Ran Away from Quarantine Hotel

INTERNATIONAL: Thai police have detained on Wednesday an Israeli tourist who ran away from a quarantine hotel in Bangkok and has tested positive for the Omicron coronavirus variant.

Twenty-nine-year-old Ohad Baruch had arrived in Bangkok on December 17 and left the quarantine hotel the next day without waiting for the test result. He has travelled to the island of Koh Samui in southern Thailand before turning himself in to police on Wednesday afternoon.

Baruch has tested negative in a later test but was ordered to quarantine at Koh Samui Hospital for ten days.

"Test results of Israeli tourist came out both negative and positive in different times because he has almost recovered," said Public Health Permanent Secretary, Kiattiphum Wongrajit.

Baruch is charged with failing to comply with disease and control measures.
